The Trauma of Death By Suicide
As an experienced clinician I have dealt with this topic as well as personally know individuals who have died by suicide. The suffering that these individuals experience is tremendous and due to their depression they seek a solution to resolve the pain. Unfortunately, this solution is a permanent one and the lasting effects extend to the surviving loved ones left behind. Knowing one who has died by suicide can cause trauma in the grieving family/friends. “Could I have done something to prevent this?” “Did they suffer when it happened?” “I can’t get these images out of my mind.” “I can’t sleep.” I am having nightmares about it”. Experiencing this type of loss is very difficult and it can permeate into one’s daily life causing lack of focus, lack of sleep, anxiety, fear/panic and depression. These feelings can paralyze the individual and prevent successful functioning in daily life. If you can relate to any of this information I encourage you to reach out and get support. I am here to help you through this very difficult loss and navigate the feelings associated with death by suicide.
