The Grief of Losing Independence

Loss of Your Independence

Are you experiencing loss of physical independence due to an illness? This is a type of loss that many don’t recognize as something to grieve. However, it is tremendous loss. In my many years as a hospice social worker I encountered many patients who struggled with the loss of their independence due to the debilitating effects of their illness. Not only were they grieving the loss of separating from their loved ones at death, they were also grieving the loss of their physical and cognitive abilities that were diminishing as their health declined. Providing support and an outlet for these people allowed them to process their grief on many levels and have a more peaceful death. If you or anyone you know are experiencing a loss of independence, I can help. Please reach out and let me help support you in this very challenging time.
