Does Grief & Loss Always Mean Death “the d-word”?

When you hear the terms grief and loss what do you think of first? Usually, the first word associated with grief and loss is death. However, when someone is grieving it is not always related to the average death of a person or loved-one or pet. People can have issues with grief and loss due to many types of losses. For instance, a big loss that triggers grief and loss is another D-word….Divorce. Divorce can result in a significant amount of grieving. Grieving the loss of what the marriage “was supposed to be”, grieving the loss of the idea of marriage and what your expectations were from the relationship. If you have children, grieving for them and their pain re: the separation and loss. These and many more feelings are associated with the loss of a partnership due to divorce.
