Anxiety Therapy

Tired Of The Anxiety Spiral?

Are you feeling stressed or overwhelmed?

Do you experience panic attacks, poor concentration, restlessness, and/or constant worry?

Have your symptoms begun to interfere with your everyday life?

Anxiety makes it difficult to get through the day. Between worries about what we could have done differently in the past and fears of what might happen in the future, staying present and focused often feels impossible. As a result, anxiety can have negative implications for our work performance, relationships, and overall quality of life.

How Does Anxiety Manifest In Your Life?

If you’re battling anxiety, chances are that a stressor or trauma from your life has caused you to feel unsafe and on-edge. Maybe you experienced something painful or upsetting in the past that has left you in a state of hypervigilance ever since. Or perhaps a recent change—including a death, divorce, or other adverse experience—has caused you to feel out of control and off-balance. If you have been put in the position of having to care for someone else following an illness or death, you may be struggling with the stress and burnout that often accompanies caregiving.

Alongside mental and emotional symptoms, anxiety often manifests in physical ways. You may suffer from panic attacks during which your breathing becomes labored, your muscles become tense, and your mind is overwhelmed with feelings of panic and doom. Anxiety also affects sleep, making it difficult to quiet your mind and relax. Without adequate rest, symptoms are likely to worsen, intensifying the cycle of anxiety overall.

The longer these symptoms persevere, the more entrenched an anxious mindset becomes, eventually creating a significant barrier between yourself and your ability to enjoy life. Fortunately, anxiety is highly treatable with the support and guidance of a therapist. Working together in counseling, we will explore the root causes for your anxiety as you learn new coping strategies for managing feelings of stress and overwhelm.

Anxiety Is A Normal Response To A Noisy, Chaotic World

Given our often stressful, divisive surroundings, anxiety is extremely common among adults worldwide. Beyond the stressors we experience as individuals, there are the added pressures put on us by a demanding, success-obsessed society. Many of us live with the consequences of poor work-life balance while we simultaneously navigate a scary, polarizing 24/7 news cycle and political landscape that is always changing. It’s challenging to adapt easily, especially when we have the added responsibility of caring for others.

Unfortunately, many people don’t seek therapy for their anxiety. Whether they grapple with the stigma of mental health counseling or have developed the belief that their anxiety is simply a part of life they have to manage on their own, individuals who are suffering don’t receive the support they need. But humans are not meant to withstand life’s challenges alone—and the more fears and worries are internalized, the more they intensify.

All of us need support, and counseling is a great place to start. In treatment for anxiety through Mindful Lotus Therapy, you can work with an experienced clinician who will help you understand your fears, where they originate, and how to approach them in a way that feels more manageable and less intrusive in your daily life.

At Mindful Lotus Therapy, We Treat Anxiety From The Inside Out

Therapy for anxiety is about creating actionable solutions right now while also figuring out where distress and discomfort come from. Our therapists will work with you to identify root causes, rewire your nervous system, and develop an individualized treatment plan designed to reduce the intensity of your anxiety.

As we explore options for which approaches will work best, you will learn more about the body’s stress responses—fight, flight, freeze—and what those states feel like as you become activated. Then, using mindfulness interventions and somatic (body-based) therapies, we will help you tune in and learn how to calm the mind and body.

One of the tools we use in therapy is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which is particularly helpful for clients experiencing anxiety as a result of a painful, frightening, or distressing situation. For more information about this approach, visit our EMDR page.

That said, we know that each client is unique. Therapy is a collaborative process that you direct. The approach we take in therapy will depend entirely on how you respond and what works to reduce your anxiety. If you decide you want to incorporate medication, we will refer you to a prescribing clinician who can help.

Albert Einstein famously said, “You cannot solve a problem with the same mind that created it.” Through counseling, you can work with a therapist who can meaningfully assist you in shifting your mindset and regaining the space that your anxiety has taken away. As long as you bring an open heart and mind to this process, there is always hope; less suffering is always possible.

Still Unsure If Counseling Will Help Reduce Your Anxiety?

  • Therapy is not designed to be a long-term process. Rather, your therapist is here to help lessen your suffering right now so you can build up your coping toolkit with the goal of empowering you to solve problems on your own. You are likely to observe that the better you feel throughout the process, the less support you will need.

  • Many clients share this fear, but actually, the opposite is true. When we hold things in and don’t talk about them, we internalize them, causing bad feelings to intensify. Like a teapot warming up and filling with steam, our emotions will have explosive effects if there’s nowhere for them to be redirected.

Our therapists meet you where you are in your journey, careful to move at a pace that feels comfortable and productive for you. We want to create a safe, supportive space in your life where you can go to feel better, not worse.

  • We are so sorry to hear that you have been disappointed in the therapeutic process in the past—therapy should always be an environment where you can feel safe to open up and be completely honest.

At Mindful Lotus Therapy, we value our clients and understand the importance of nonjudgment. We are trained, empathetic professionals who are honored to hear your story and walk alongside you in this process, treating you as the expert on your life every step of the way.
